Agree strongly with this (as a former soccer player especially). Not only does scoreless soccer de-incentivize winning, it deprives the ‘losers’ of the motivation to improve and strive to achieve more. What we’ll end up with is a society of average, milquetoast unmotivated losers. Come to think of it, that would be ideal for a socialist revolution.
Yes. Exactly. Another negative I just thought of is that competition is the essence of capitalism. The left attempts to eliminate competition in areas like grading, and recognition of valedictorians,
Yes precisely—the reason capitalism works is that it capitalizes on the natural competition and ambition that characterize the human condition. Instead of embracing that, they’re trying to change the human condition itself.
What you wrote is, I would suggest, the essential difference between left and right mentalities . The left believes, or wants to believe, we are born as blank slates to be shaped by the environment. Anyone can be anything. The right believes that as a species we are born self serving, capable of barbarism, as the history of humanity has shown . As individuals, we are born unequal in attitudes, skills etc. as human history has shown. Capitalism channels self-interest resulting in civilization. Ignoring human nature will not make it change. (I feel like I just restated your note. )
Fully agree. It has taken us thousands of years to realize that and to build a system that can channel the ‘badness’ of mankind into something productive and ‘good’. This has led to alleviation of poverty and starvation, and the promotion of true equality. But now certain factions are attempting to undo it.
Exactly. When Theodore White was travelling with Mao and his great march, he noted that the leaders got the most milk. Or like Orwell said, “All pigs are equal, but some are more equal.”

In leftism, everybody loses, except the rulers.
