Great story. Americans don't understand how much government overregulation is taking away our freedoms as it hurts our economy. Because the mass media almost never reports that story.
Yes, and it seems to me that the NYT article pushed the false narrative about Maine , and by implication, that the rest of the country benefits from unfettered immigration. By the way, after I posted it, I realized that I had downloaded your book on overregulation but forgot to use it. I'll point that out to subscribers in a few days.
Contemplating the fine line between the need for oversight and broken systems that government bureaucrats always seem to devise and implement, leaves me mentally exhausted. Between the never ending cycle of pandering to lobbyists and refusing to compromise, nothing gets done, and the extremes on both sides of the aisle continue to battle. The moderate rational middle keeps hoping for common sense to prevail along with efficiency and effectiveness and yet here we are…..another day older and deeper in debt. Immigration policy (like so many other broken systems) has been talked about and examined to the point of nausea , nothing gets done, nothing gets fixed, and the next election cycle is either being prepared for or in full swing. By the way, I love lobster as well…..and much prefer thinking about eating some than contemplating the mess we are in. Thanks for another thought-provoking article.
Rosemary, it seems as if regulation has superseded legislation, creating an unchecked bureaucracy. When Tennessee Ernie Ford, sang "Another day older and deeper in debt," he could not have imagined a $35 trillion debt. Pandering to lobbyists will never end. Trump had immigration policies that worked, or at least kept it under control. The sex trafficking of children on the border and the influx of drugs is horrifying and destructive. Yet thousands continue to stream through. The human suffering at the border doesn't so much exhaust me as it infuriates me. In some states, Democrats want non-citizens to vote. Was there ever a sovereign nation in the world that saw the merit in this? Keep enjoying Lobster; and thanks for your thanks. Glad you found it interesting.
