Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.
Albert Einstein
The night before he died, Einstein was in bed scribbling notes. Next to his bed were 12 pages of tightly written equations. At the closing moments of his life, he still doggedly pursued the elusive unified field theory.
He never figured it out.
I’m not going to either. But like Einstein, I’m in awe of “the marvelous structure of reality.” Part of that reality is that we “naked apes,” who are capable of sending the James Webb telescope with all its complexities, to a specific point one million miles into space to capture light billions of years old, are also capable of so much destructive sound and fury.
These substack posting are not about science or math. Intermediate calculus so rattled my brain, that I dropped my math major and pursued subjects that captured my interest. History, politics, government, psychology, sociology, religion, literature, philosophy, biography, biology and current affairs, all melded together into a dizzying conglomerate called “Human Behavior,” which I taught, and published around 250 columns and two books.
While most of these subjects are apolitical, they sometimes have a conservative orientation.
Here’s a partial list of where I’ve been and where we are going.
· The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of the Human Species
· Religion & spirituality
· Family
· Law and crime
· Politics
· Sports
· Education
· Men, women and relationships
· Meaning, purpose and the quest for significance
· Health and the Mind / Body connection
· Coping
· War and Revolution
· Humor and Satire
· Identity
· The Decline of American Civilization - To some this is a cause for celebration, to others it is a demoralizing trend. I’m of the latter opinion.
· The Universe, Aliens, Death and Eternity
Because the list is so broad, this well will never run dry.
On the page below I’ve crammed the titles and opening lines of nine previously published columns. The page is crowded because I want readers to see the OVERSIZED titles as they appeared in newspapers, along with the hooks to pull in readers in the first two or three seconds.
I’ll be publishing around two new piece every week.
Sorry about the sloppy cut and paste; it’s soooo 20th century. But then again, so am I.
Your work is right up my alley. Can't wait to read more.
