NOTE
The kids at East High School in Denver, returned from Winter Break to find one of the girl’s restrooms converted to gender neutral. As a precaution against some teenage boys attempting to peek over the tops of the stalls, the good folks at East replaced the old ones with twelve-foot-high stalls. The school’s website explained that the new bathroom “reflects (the school’s) commitment to inclusivity and equity, providing a welcoming space for all students.” East High School is “fostering a school environment where every student feels safe and respected.”
I happen to be fluent in WokeSpeak and will attempt to translate.
How is this inclusive? Well, boys who “identify” as girls have two options. 1) They may use the unisex restroom without feeling excluded because everyone is welcome there. 2) They could also use the boys’ rooms, because no one will know they are secretly girls.
Girls feeling uncomfortable with boys around, would avoid the co-ed bathroom, but the effect is to exclude them from what used to be the girls’ room. “A welcoming space for all students.” Except for girls who identify as girls.
“Every student feels safe and respected?” You can be certain that gaggles of fourteen-year-old boys would never ever, ever, make lewd, crude or intimidating comments to the girls, or to boys in dresses applying make-up. Teenage boys are always polite and respectful.
East student, Mattison Nunez, admonished her school by writing in the Denver Post:
“East is not fulfilling its promise of inclusion and that the unadvertised conversion of the girl’s restroom to gender-neutral is a sign of laziness, exclusion..” Well said, Matison. School administrators expected to get cheers for jumping on the jargon-laden, Woke Bandwagon. Not jeers. When your children study the 2020s, Matison, you can tell them that some people had the courage to disagree.
Perhaps East High School’s 12-foot stalls are an attempt to overcome its dismal “Equity Rating,” where East is outperformed by 61% of Colorado high schools.
